Roman Blinds | James Albert

Made to Measure

Roman Blinds,
beautifully made.

Soft, elegant and endlessly versatile — Roman blinds bring warmth and personality to any window. Every one is made to measure in your chosen fabric, lining and style, and fitted by our own team to an exacting standard.

About Roman Blinds

The warmth of fabric,
the precision of a blind.

Roman blinds offer a softness that no hard blind can match. When raised, the fabric folds neatly into elegant horizontal pleats. When lowered, it falls flat and smooth across the window — creating a clean, considered finish that works in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and home offices alike.

Every Roman blind is made to your exact window measurements in your chosen fabric. We bring samples to you at your home survey, or you're welcome to visit our showroom in Preston where you can browse our full fabric library and see the collections in person before making any decisions.

Roman blinds can also be motorised — a discreet motor in the headrail gives you effortless raise and lower by remote, app or voice command, integrating fully with your smart home system.

Styles & Folds

Choosing the right
fold for your room.

Gathered Fold
Formal · Structured

The fabric is evenly gathered into crisp horizontal folds when raised, and falls completely flat when lowered. The most versatile style — works with plains, textures and patterns equally well, and particularly effective with heavier fabrics such as linens, velvets and woven jacquards where the fold adds weight and presence.

Relaxed Fold
Casual · Soft

Rather than folding into structured pleats, the relaxed fold allows the fabric to drape softly at the base when lowered — creating a more informal, lived-in look. Particularly suited to natural fabrics like linen and cotton and to casual living spaces where a looser, less structured aesthetic is preferred.

Motorised Roman
Smart home · Effortless

Available in either fold style — a discreet motor is fitted within the headrail and operates silently via remote, smartphone app or voice command. Compatible with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit, and integrable with Control4, Lutron and other home automation systems.

Lining Options

The right lining makes
all the difference.

Standard Lining

Cotton sateen · All rooms

A cotton sateen lining gives the blind body, improves the hang of the fabric and provides a degree of light reduction and privacy. Gives a Roman blind its characteristic crisp, well-structured appearance and protects the face fabric from UV damage over time.

Interlining

Premium finish · Luxury weight

An additional layer of soft, padded fabric added between the face fabric and the lining — giving the blind significantly more weight, body and warmth. The folds look fuller and more luxurious, and the thermal and acoustic performance is noticeably improved. The finishing touch that distinguishes a truly premium Roman blind.

Blackout Lining

Total darkness · Bedrooms

A specialist coated blackout fabric that eliminates light penetration entirely — available across our full fabric range without any compromise on choice. Essential for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms. Can be combined with interlining for maximum thermal performance alongside complete light block.

Thermal Lining

Energy saving · North-facing rooms

A reflective coating on the reverse of the lining reflects heat back into the room in winter and solar gain away in summer — particularly effective on north and east-facing windows. A practical upgrade for rooms with older glazing or significant heat loss.

The Finishing Touch

Complete the look
with a pelmet.

A pelmet transforms a blind from a functional window covering into a truly considered interior detail. Fitted above the blind, it conceals the headrail and any fixings — creating a clean, architectural finish that immediately elevates the overall look of the window treatment.

Pelmets can be covered in the same fabric as the blind for a seamless look, or in a coordinating or contrasting fabric for a more layered, designed effect.

01
Fabric-covered pelmet board

A straight, flat pelmet board covered in the blind fabric or a coordinating fabric — the simplest and cleanest option. Particularly effective in contemporary interiors where a minimal, unfussy finish is required.

02
Shaped & upholstered pelmet

A fully upholstered pelmet with a shaped lower edge — scalloped, arched or custom profile. Finished with piping, contrast fabric or decorative trim for a more formal, traditional or statement look.

03
Cornice pelmet

A three-sided box pelmet that wraps around the front and sides of the window treatment — giving a substantial, architectural appearance. Often used in principal reception rooms where a grand, finished look is the brief.
