James Albert Apex Blinds
Blinds for
windows that
break the rules.
Standard blinds simply won't fit triangular, apex, gable-end and shaped windows. SonaApex™ is an expertly engineered, made-to-measure honeycomb cellular system designed specifically for these windows — motorised, cord-free and thermally efficient.

Why shaped windows
need a specialist solution.
Apex, triangular, gable-end and angled windows are increasingly common in modern architecture — and they're almost always left bare, either because homeowners assume nothing can be fitted, or because they've tried standard blinds and found them impossible to install neatly.
A standard rectangular blind dropped into an apex window leaves huge triangular gaps either side. The fabric gathers awkwardly, the headrail sits at an angle, and the result looks wrong. Our apex blind system solves all of this — the blind is made precisely to the shape of the window, retracts cleanly to the apex, and operates by motor so there are no cords to manage in difficult-to-reach positions.
Rectangular blinds cannot cover triangular or angled glazing — they leave large uncovered areas where light, heat loss and lack of privacy become serious problems.
Apex and gable windows are almost always positioned high up — often two or three metres above floor level. Manual cords and chains are impractical and potentially dangerous.
Glazing at height loses heat rapidly. Without an insulating blind, the warm air in a vaulted room rises and escapes directly through an uncovered apex window.
Precision-made to the exact shape of your window, fully motorised and thermally efficient — the complete solution for any shaped or angled glazing.
How SonaApex™ Works
Engineered for
precision and performance.
Precise measurement
We measure every dimension of your shaped window — height, width, slope angle and any asymmetry. Our templates ensure the blind is made to your exact window, not a standard approximation.
Bespoke manufacture
The SonaApex™ blind is cut precisely to your window shape. The aluminium side rails follow the angle of your window frame exactly — there are no gaps, no overlaps, no exposed frame.
Motor pre-set
All limit settings are pre-programmed at the factory before the blind is despatched — it arrives ready to operate correctly from first use without any on-site programming required.
Expert installation
Our installation team fits every apex blind — checking the operation, the coverage and the motor function before leaving. Our motors are tested to 40,000 revolutions for long-term reliability.
The Honeycomb Fabric
More than just
a window covering.
The SonaApex™ system uses a specialist pleated honeycomb cellular fabric — the same hexagonal cell structure used in high-performance architectural insulation, adapted for precision window shading.
Each hexagonal cell traps a layer of still air between the fabric and the glass, creating an insulating barrier that reduces thermal transfer in both directions. In winter it slows heat loss. In summer it limits solar gain. The same cells also absorb sound, making the blind particularly effective in vaulted rooms with hard surfaces where echo is a problem.
Window Types We Cover
Any shape.
Any angle.
True triangular windows
Three-sided windows with no horizontal base — the most challenging shape to cover. SonaApex™ retracts fully to the apex point, opening up the entire window when raised. Tilt-only motor operation (no raise/lower) on pure triangles. Available in dimout and blackout fabrics in the full colour range.
Apex windows
A rectangular window with a triangular apex above — the most common shaped window in new build homes. The SonaApex™ blind covers the entire glazed area from the horizontal sill to the apex point. Raises and lowers fully, retracted to the apex when open for an unobstructed view.
Gable-end windows
Large triangular or irregularly shaped glazing at the gable end of a building — often very wide and tall. SonaApex™ can be manufactured to cover gable-end windows of considerable size. Motorised operation is standard on all gable blinds.
Trapezium & angled windows
Windows where one or both sides are angled rather than vertical — often found in dormer conversions, sloping ceilings and architectural one-off properties. Blinds are made to the exact angle of the frame using precision templates.
Arched & porthole windows
Circular, semi-circular and arched windows where the curved top creates a fitment challenge for standard systems. SonaApex™ can accommodate curved upper profiles — ask our team for a survey and feasibility assessment.
Vaulted & cathedral windows
Full-height vaulted glazing in converted barns, churches and large residential properties — often involving multiple adjacent panels at different angles. We survey and specify each panel individually for complete, coordinated coverage.
Power Options
Wired or wire-free —
your choice.
A lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack powers the motor — no electrician required and no wiring disruption to your ceiling or wall. The battery requires charging approximately every six months under normal use. Charging via a standard USB cable — in most cases no access equipment is required as the cable simply plugs into the motor housing below the blind. The most popular option for retrofit installations in existing homes.
A small solar panel charges the battery continuously from ambient light — completely self-sufficient in south and west-facing applications. No charging cable, no electrician, no ongoing battery management. Ideal for conservatories, roof lanterns and any glazing with good natural light exposure throughout the day.
A discreet mains spur provides continuous power — zero battery management, zero charging, unlimited operation cycles. Specified during construction or major refurbishment when cable routes can be built in. The definitive long-term solution for high-use installations and properties where convenience is paramount.
Control Options
Operate from anywhere,
any way you prefer.
Remote handset
A standard multi-channel remote — control individual blinds or groups simultaneously. Compact, reliable and included as standard with every installation.
Wall switch
A flush-mounted wall switch for rooms where a permanent, fixed control makes more sense than a handset. Available in a range of finishes to complement your interior.
Smartphone app
Control from anywhere via app — set schedules, create scenes and adjust individual blinds or whole rooms from your phone or tablet, even when you're away from home.
Voice control
Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant — raise, lower or tilt blinds using natural voice commands via your existing smart speaker setup.
Control4
Full integration with Control4 home automation — blinds respond to scenes, time-of-day programming and occupancy sensors within your existing system.
Lutron & Crestron
Professional-grade integration with Lutron and Crestron platforms — ideal for high-specification residential and commercial installations with existing automation infrastructure.
Scheduled timers
Programme blinds to operate automatically at set times — open at sunrise to wake naturally, close at sunset to retain warmth, or set away-mode routines for security.
Scene setting
Group multiple blinds across a room or floor and control them simultaneously with a single command — morning, evening, entertaining and sleeping modes all saved and recalled instantly.
Why Motorised?
For apex windows,
there's no alternative.
Motorisation isn't an optional upgrade on apex blinds — for most shaped windows it's the only practical way to operate them. Manual cords on a blind positioned three metres above floor level present real safety risks, are almost impossible to operate comfortably, and are particularly problematic where children are present.
The SonaApex™ system is cord-free as standard — there are no pull cords, no attachment bars and no hanging elements at all. Operation is entirely via the motor, ensuring safety regardless of who is in the room.
Completely cord-free — no loose elements, no strangulation risk, no tangled pulls. Particularly important for children's bedrooms and family homes.
Windows two or three metres above floor level cannot be operated by hand without a ladder. A motor makes daily adjustment effortless regardless of window height.
Set apex blinds to open and close automatically — protecting your room from overheating in summer without any manual intervention.
Link apex blinds into your wider smart home system — coordinate with lighting, heating and other automated devices for a fully intelligent home.
